Central City Village is the urban village of Phoenix, Arizona, that includes the downtown area of the city. As of 2010, it had a population of 58,161 residents.
As defined by the boundaries, Central City Village has an area of roughly 10 square miles. This includes Downtown, the close vicinity, and the Sky Harbor area directly east. McDowell Road and the Grand Canal bound the village to the north and northeast, the border with Tempe to the east, the Salt River to the south, and 19th Avenue/I-17 to the west.
Central City Village is unique among the villages because its core is downtown, the urban center of the entire city. Downtown Phoenix, with its many government, business, and cultural facilities, is the focal point of the expanding metropolitan region.
Many of the oldest neighborhoods in Phoenix surround the downtown. Some are designated historic districts and contain fine architecture and tree-lined streets. Most have strong neighborhood organizations that work on improvement efforts to enhance an old-fashioned neighborhood environment. Central City Village is a government and employment center; a transportation hub including freeways, public transit, and Sky Harbor International Airport; and an exciting cultural, recreational, and convention center. Because of its location at the historic center of Phoenix, many old homes and buildings in the Central City Village convey the history of Phoenix. Downtown, which includes the larger commercial and government buildings and sports venues such as Footprint Center and Chase Field, is the core of the village and the city of Phoenix. Because of this, Central City Village is almost unique in that it has a much more urban environment than the other, more suburban, villages of Phoenix.
The village also includes Sky Harbor International Airport, the busiest airport in Arizona and among the busiest in the nation, providing domestic and international air travel.

Chase Field
Chase Field, formerly Bank One Ballpark, is a retractable roof stadium in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona. It is the home of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks. It opened in 1998 when the Diamondbacks debuted as an expansion team. Chase Field was the first stadium built in the United States with a retractable roof over a natural-grass playing surface.
